RestRate Privacy Policy

Updated: 1 October 2026 · Initial effective date: 20 July 2026

RestRate helps pet owners and veterinary professionals count and record sleeping or resting respiratory rates for dogs and cats. It is an informational monitoring aid and does not diagnose disease or replace veterinary assessment.

RestRate is operated by Nuno Pereira. For privacy questions, support, or a request about your information, email RestRate@proton.me

1. Information stored on your device

RestRate stores the following information locally:

- Your profile name and optional email address.
- Each pet's identifier, name, species, optional breed, date of birth and photograph, and any notes retained from earlier versions.
- Respiratory-rate results, measurement dates and times, duration, breath count, measurement context, quality information, and any retained notes and tags.
- Reminder settings, appearance and video-sharing preferences, and onboarding state.
- Records of your acceptance of the Terms and Privacy Policy, including their versions and revisions, acceptance time, language and local profile identifier.

Your local pet profiles and measurement history do not sync between phones. The owner email field is not a login address and is not attached to uploads by the current app. Legal-acceptance records are not sent to the upload service.

Local reminders use your device's notification service. RestRate does not request a remote push-notification token or upload your reminder schedule.

2. Camera measurements and your video choice

New timed camera measurements require camera permission. You count the breaths by tapping; the camera does not automatically detect them. The app records video during the measurement without microphone audio.

Video upload is optional. You can choose to be asked after each measurement, automatically upload future measurement videos, or never upload them. Automatic upload is off by default and starts only when you explicitly select it. Accepting the Terms and Privacy Policy does not turn it on. You can change the setting for future measurements at any time.

Your respiratory-rate result can be saved if you decline an upload or an upload fails. If recording fails after counting starts, the result can still be saved without a usable video. A measurement with no usable video does not create a video-upload request. Older measurements intentionally taken without video remain in history.

3. Information sent with a private upload

If you choose upload, RestRate sends:

- The silent measurement video.

- The pet identifier, pet name and dog or cat species.

- The measurement identifier, respiratory-rate result, measurement date and time, duration, breath count and context.

- File details and identifiers needed to associate the video with the measurement and avoid duplicate uploads.

The current upload workflow does not include owner name or email, pet breed or date of birth, the pet profile photograph, complete measurement history, or legal-acceptance records.

Supabase creates or restores an anonymous upload identity. That identifier links your uploads for authorization, ownership checks, retry control and abuse prevention. Anonymous login does not mean that uploads are unlinked or inaccessible to the operator. The service also stores upload-attempt times, upload and email status, review status, and relevant service errors. These records can be linked to the upload identity and measurement.

Private uploads are used for measurement-quality review and product improvement. Upload activity and service information are also used to operate, protect and troubleshoot the service. The operator can review uploaded videos and their accompanying information.

4. Service providers and other sharing

Supabase provides anonymous authentication, private video storage, database records and server-side processing. Resend sends administrator notification emails containing upload information and a temporary video-access link to the operator. Administrator email is part of the current upload workflow.

Service providers receive network requests and may process IP addresses, request information, security logs, service diagnostics and backups. Their handling and retention are separate from the video's temporary access period. These are operational service records; choosing Never upload does not disable processing performed separately by the operating system or a platform dependency.

On Android, the camera dependency includes Google ML Kit. Google documents processing of device and app information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics and feature diagnostics for that Android SDK. This is separate from optional RestRate video sharing and does not describe an iOS ML Kit integration. Recording, upload, pet-image and reminder diagnostics can also be stored locally; they are not automatically included in video-upload metadata. If you choose to send diagnostic information to support, the information you send becomes part of that correspondence.

You can share a veterinary report through your device's share sheet. It contains the selected pet's name and species, entered breed and date of birth, the selected date range, eligible measurements and summaries, and any retained measurement notes. It excludes owner name/email, pet photographs and video access. You choose the recipient, whose handling and retention then apply. Support email opens your external email app.

RestRate does not sell user information or use advertising or cross-app tracking. Information may also be disclosed where required by applicable law.

5. Video and record retention

After the service confirms a successful upload, the app removes the local recording. It also removes the local recording when you decline upload. Following an upload failure, a recording may be kept for controlled retries for up to 48 hours, with at most five total attempts. Local cleanup depends on the app being able to run; interrupted cleanup is retried when the app runs again, and the operating system may remove cached files earlier. The respiratory-rate result is retained separately from the video.

Uploaded videos are stored privately. Temporary video access expires after 30 days. Expired video files are then removed by the daily cleanup process; link expiry does not itself remove the file, and deletion is not instantaneous at the end of day 30. Permanent public video links are not created.

Upload-attempt records older than 30 days are removed by the scheduled cleanup. Upload metadata, including information about the pet and measurement, status and deletion records, is not automatically erased when a video file is removed and can remain longer. Some early beta upload records also contain an owner email address and client software information; the current upload workflow does not add those fields.

Administrator emails, support correspondence, provider logs and backups have separate lifecycles. They are not all deleted after 30 days or when a video link expires. No single fixed deletion period is stated for these records. Contact us about access or deletion of information associated with your uploads or correspondence.

6. Deletion, choices and privacy requests

Local profiles, pet information, photographs, measurements, acceptance records and preferences remain until you edit or delete them, reset the app, or remove its local data. Deleting a pet removes that pet's local records, reminders, videos and photograph. Resetting also clears the anonymous upload session. Device backups and restored app data may follow separate operating-system settings.

Local deletion, reset and uninstall do not request deletion of previously uploaded copies or messages already shared elsewhere. Choosing Never stops future uploads; it does not delete earlier uploads. There is no in-app remote-deletion action in the current app.

For access to or deletion of remote information, email us, preferably before resetting or removing the app. Explain your request and give the relevant pet and measurement date, and an upload reference if you have one. Do not send passwords or session tokens. Clearing the anonymous session can make it harder to identify your uploads, and we may need more information to locate the correct records and verify the request. Provider logs, backups and legally required records may be subject to separate handling.

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive your information, restrict or object to its processing, or withdraw consent. Send these requests and questions about your choices to the same email address.

7. Security and audience

RestRate uses private storage, authenticated upload access and temporary video links to protect uploaded information. No system can guarantee complete security.

RestRate is intended for pet owners and veterinary professionals. Under the current Terms, users must have the legal capacity to accept the Terms or use the app with permission from a parent or guardian. The app concerns animals rather than human health records.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the service or information handling. The date at the top identifies this website notice. The app asks for renewed acceptance when a required in-app policy version or revision changes. Updating the website alone does not change the policy revision stored in an installed app, and policy acceptance does not enable automatic video upload.

For questions about this notice or the version displayed in your app, email us.
